Hauling 4 Tons and Waffles

Good Monday little bots. This past week was filled with gaming, shopping, hauling, being creeped out, and waffles. Hoping this week will be boring and I can relax a little bit before I have to deal with the Bumbershoot/Pax/Labor day crowds.

In the first half of the week I played the new expansion from Diablo 3 called Reaper of souls on the Xbox One. I finished the main story and loved it! I really liked how they added some more character development to the side characters and even your own character. I still need to play adventure mode and try out the Crusader character that they have added. This past weekend all I played was playing Diablo with my boyfriend and friends.

I took a break from playing Diablo to go shopping with my mom and to comfort her as she gets a new load of hay. The shopping aspect was fine, I love shopping with my mom, but she needs to get over her anxiety over hay delivery. She has been getting hay delivered for over 18 years now and nothing has gone wrong. Usually I just have to make sure the horses are put away and secured and hold my mothers hand when they bring the trailer up to the barn. Now the barn is up on a hill and usually the guy can make it up and just have to stack the hay. Unfortunately he couldn’t make it up the hill, my mother and I had to drag 4tons.... let me repeat that... 4 MOTHER FUCKING TONS OF HAY EACH BALE WEIGHING 100 POUNDS!

I love my mother very much but between hauling that hay and the creepy delivery guy checking me out I told her I'm never hauling hay again. And she agreed with me. I told her next time they couldn’t make it up the hill for some reason, they should park the trailer down the hill and make trips with the pickup truck until the job is done. I'm not throwing my back out and being so sore it hurts to sleep because the driver couldn’t make it up the hill.

I returned home bruised, sore, and tired. So as a result of being an out of shaped pig; I dedicated the weekend to laziness. Mostly it was for recovering my mussel from pulling 4 tons of hay that I did not stretch out before hand. So thus I played the shit out of Diablo with my man on hard difficulty. I also made waffled cinnamon rolls. They were so good! I highly recommend doing this with the pre-made dough that you buy in the supper market. The waffling make a great catcher for the icing.

This week is back to job hunting. This weekend is not only Labor day but also PAX. And while I may not be in attendance this year, I do hope to catch up with some out of town friends over dinner. See you little bots on Friday for a rant I promise I will make one.

Working Girl

Hi little bots, hope you had a good week.  I for one was able to get a few things done and GASP, even socialize!   While I was able to get a majority of my to do be for I leave Seattle done, there are still a few bumps that I have to smooth over.

This past week I went over to my mom’s to get a few thing for the trip and help bleaching my roots.  I returned back on Friday not feeling like writing a post for Friday’s blog.  Again sorry.  But I did have my meeting with the director to view the film and to receive the hard rive of the film.
We meet at a coffee shop near my place.  The film didn’t have that many glaring audio issues, but the “found” footage audio is bad.  The good news is the director knows this and doesn’t have high hope, just wants is audible enough for the audience to understand.  Good meeting all around.
When I got home to open up the OMF file I was surprised that the editor did not include the video with it.  I searched the drive and could only find clips of the film.  So now I have to wait for the editor to send me a QuickTime file of the film.  When I told them I would need an OMF of the file, it usually includes the video file in it.  Sigh, new editors.

So that freed up my weekend and part of Monday.  Saturday, my man and I went to the SyFy short film festival with our friend.  There were some shorts that were good but a majority of them were overly pretentious and very few science fiction themes.  We all felt hipsters have taken over the festival and thus the lack of good films.  Don’t know if we will go back next year.
Sunday my man and I invited over our friend M and Kiri.  Kiri has a YouTube channel Whit & Whimsy, is a vlogger on Geek and Sundry called Kiriosity, and plays games on her Twitch channel call Kiriosity.  So they came over and we all played Diablo 3 on her twitch channel, I should have told you guys but I forgot.  I will post links of your game play when she posts them on YouTube.  I think it went well, forgot to plug my blog but whatever.  Let me know what you think when the video is up.

This week I will be busy with documentary, when I get the video.  There is only so much a sound editor can do before we need the video to make sure everything is synced!  I will post something Friday, hopefully the twitch videos on kiri’s YouTube channel.

Game Review: Diablo 3

Happy Friday everyone, just wanted to do a quick review on Diablo 3 since I finished is last week.  I know this game has been out since last year, but the console version for the 360 was released in September of this year.  My man bought it after some of his coworkers were raving about it.  With me being a lover of fantasy, I jut had to try it out.

Story
This is your typical hero save the world story.  You the main hero must battle undead, monsters, demons, and eventually the demon lord of hell Diablo.  The story plays out more like a play (a total of four acts you play threw) than a linear game.  I wont give away the plot, but it is a flat story line with a predictable plot twists, no character development, and flat NPCs that make you want to bang your head against the wall.

Gameplay
Supper easy to pick up.  Top down play to see everything around you, no jump scares of coming around the corner or surprise attacks.  This makes it a lot easier to strategize on how to go up against a group of enemies.  The controls are fluid and the camera adjusts your view (like seeing threw walls) and your movement with joysticks reacts quickly.  Your attacks are like that of World of Warcraft, where you pick an attack.  Unlike WoW, the attacks are quick and have a much faster reload time.
Playing with your friends either online or local co-op is great.  This game is meant to be played with someone else.  I know if you play with out someone you have a companion to help you fight; it is not the same as having a buddy with you to help or hinder you as you play threw the game.  Furthermore each time you play the game it randomly generates levels and encounters.  This make the replay more exciting since you have a new area to explore and wondering what is to come (unlike the main plot).

Graphics and Sound

The graphics are better than WoW but still looks a little cartoony.  Yes you have some horrifying monsters but the over all look isn’t scary or creep you out.  The brightness and colors pop in this game resulting in little to no change in lighting from one dark dungeon to the outside.  I do like the character and monster designs; but it would have been nice to fully appreciate there detail if their was a way to zoom in on them or had a character gallery in the menu.

The sound design relied on the background music and reused sound effects libraries.  Music in this game is very nice and calm, doesn’t pump you up unless you are up against a boss or about to head into a long battle.  I really dig the music in this game and how it changes with each chapter. The voice acting was well done by the actors desperately trying to give life to there flat as a pancake characters (I will stop now) and it was enjoyable to listen to them rather than reading out a large text.  Other than the voice acting and music the sound design was just coving there butts to make sure everything was covered that needed a sound.

Overall this game is great for those who want to play with friends or love dungeon crawlers.  While the story has been told a thousand times over, and the overall sound design is ok, the gameplay and easy on the colorful graphics will make this game an easy pick up for any gamer on any level.

What are your thoughts on this game?  Agree or disagree with me, let me know in the comments below.  See you Monday for another instrument of my boring ass life.
