Hauling 4 Tons and Waffles

Good Monday little bots. This past week was filled with gaming, shopping, hauling, being creeped out, and waffles. Hoping this week will be boring and I can relax a little bit before I have to deal with the Bumbershoot/Pax/Labor day crowds.

In the first half of the week I played the new expansion from Diablo 3 called Reaper of souls on the Xbox One. I finished the main story and loved it! I really liked how they added some more character development to the side characters and even your own character. I still need to play adventure mode and try out the Crusader character that they have added. This past weekend all I played was playing Diablo with my boyfriend and friends.

I took a break from playing Diablo to go shopping with my mom and to comfort her as she gets a new load of hay. The shopping aspect was fine, I love shopping with my mom, but she needs to get over her anxiety over hay delivery. She has been getting hay delivered for over 18 years now and nothing has gone wrong. Usually I just have to make sure the horses are put away and secured and hold my mothers hand when they bring the trailer up to the barn. Now the barn is up on a hill and usually the guy can make it up and just have to stack the hay. Unfortunately he couldn’t make it up the hill, my mother and I had to drag 4tons.... let me repeat that... 4 MOTHER FUCKING TONS OF HAY EACH BALE WEIGHING 100 POUNDS!

I love my mother very much but between hauling that hay and the creepy delivery guy checking me out I told her I'm never hauling hay again. And she agreed with me. I told her next time they couldn’t make it up the hill for some reason, they should park the trailer down the hill and make trips with the pickup truck until the job is done. I'm not throwing my back out and being so sore it hurts to sleep because the driver couldn’t make it up the hill.

I returned home bruised, sore, and tired. So as a result of being an out of shaped pig; I dedicated the weekend to laziness. Mostly it was for recovering my mussel from pulling 4 tons of hay that I did not stretch out before hand. So thus I played the shit out of Diablo with my man on hard difficulty. I also made waffled cinnamon rolls. They were so good! I highly recommend doing this with the pre-made dough that you buy in the supper market. The waffling make a great catcher for the icing.

This week is back to job hunting. This weekend is not only Labor day but also PAX. And while I may not be in attendance this year, I do hope to catch up with some out of town friends over dinner. See you little bots on Friday for a rant I promise I will make one.

Bitchin’ Fridays: Say No to Pro Bono

If you are a regular who follows my blog you would know the issues that I have had with this gig that I am donating my time on.  Hell last Friday’s rant was about a similar subject.  This week I am going to discus why you shouldn’t take free work.

Giving out your services for free is like a hooker giving out complimentary sex, it only benefits one person.  It also makes you look cheep, desperate, and lacking experience.  Now this is how I feel after taking this gig, minus the lacking part.  No matter what even if they promise future paid work for you, if they don’t have money now what makes you think they will have money in the future projects.  They will not magically become famous off of one short film that is playing at a local film festival.
Now starting out you might be tempted to do free work, don’t!  If you want to break into the industry or even get some kind of taste what it is like you can do one of two things.  The first is taking up an internship (most helpful if you went to school or are currently in school).  With internship you will be running medial tasks like coffee runner, but if you work it wisely your supervisor or someone will show you a new skill set.  The second is to shadow a professional for a day or week.  This is great for anyone curious about a particular job and wants to find out more info.  While yes these are not paying you are getting something out of it, a skill set and knowledge.
Already a professional, well this handy chart depicts how to handle a variety of people who ask you to do work:

If you click on the link you can see that no matter what, always say no to a company or director who ask you to work for free.  I would say the only time you should donate your time and work would be for close family and a charity that would make your reel and resume look good.

I would love to thank http://www.shouldiworkforfree.com/ for sweet graphic.  If you have any suggestions on what I should bitch about next week leave me a comment or any of your own personal horror stories of jobs gone wrong.  See you Monday for a wrap up of my week.

Bitchin’ Fridays: E3 and the Out come for Xbox One

Last week was E3 and the whole gamer nation was watch for the next round of console wars to start up.  I’ll admit that PlayStation had the better conference than Xbox, but what got to me was the negative feed back from the internet.  You must have read on twitter and facebook the big blow out against Microsoft and their new policies on DMR, sharing games, and connecting once a day online.

Well this week Microsoft came out with a statement regarding the back lash.  In that statement they said they are going to reverse their used-game policy to the one that exists today and to eliminate the 24-hour online check-in policy entirely.  This was a smart move on Microsoft’s end but for me it infuriates me that the internet has once again fucked with something great.
What really bugs me was the fact that a minority of people who went online to complain about something they knew nothing about.  If they did even a little bit of research about the new DMR that Microsoft was going to implement it might have changed there tune.  A great blog was posted a few days ago that covers this ordeal better than I could even express; “The Internet Just Made Microsoft Kill a Car for a Faster Horse.”  This piece really dives into the issues of companies bending to the will of the minority side of there consumers.
I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this and if you have any suggestions on what I should bitch about next week leave me a comment.  See you Monday for a proper wrap up.

Bitchin’ Fridays: The Mom Who Hates Her Children

Let me tell you about Isabella Dutton who wrote an article for The Daily Mail out of the UK, where she told her tale of motherhood.  Instead of it being the joys and trails of being a mom, she reflects on how it was the biggest mistake of her life.  Granted some women never plan on having kids and poof they get knock up, but this little gem of a woman did.

Now to say that she actually wanted children in the first place, far from it, she never wanted children.  The reason why she agreed to have children was for her husband, who wants kids,
Tony began to ask whether I was still adamant that I didn't want children. In the end I relented because I loved him and felt it would be unfair of me to deny him the chance to be a dad.”
While it is great to see a man so admit about being a father, I feel that they shouldn’t have kids together.  In the article she states that her relationship with her husband has been going strong for 37 years and that she
Did not dread the effect of the baby on our relationship.”
It is admirable that her and her husband has maintained a healthy relationship together; however I find it selfish on his behalf to widdle her down to get what he wanted.  On the other side of the coin she knew when they got married he wanted kids.  I cannot understand why you would sacrifice your happiness and desires for that of someone else.

You would think that Mrs. Dutton would only have one child but no.  According to her
It may seem perverse that I had a second child in view of my aversion to them, but I believe it is utterly selfish to have an only one.”
What?  This just blows my mind.  She never wanted to be a mother and when she did she had no love for her own child.  So why the hell would you want to be a mother of two? If some one could explain this to me I would very much appreciate it.

            While she may not have that motherly instinct, she did take cake of the children as a stay at home mom with out help.  She never starved (aside from the emotional end) or abusive towards the children, but she treated it like an unwanted job or task.  What really struck me in the article was her negativity towards working women who leave their children with nannies;
I cannot understand mothers who insist they want children - especially those who undergo years of fertility treatment - then race back to work at the earliest opportunity after giving birth, leaving the vital job of caring for them to strangers.”
I can tell you one thing about working moms who leave their children with a “stranger”, they actually love their children and don’t think of the as “parasites.” Yes they do work because maybe, just maybe, they don’t have the luxury to stay at home.

I myself do not want children ever, nor does my man.  If he decides in the future that he wants kids then I am going to have to walk away from this relationship.  Yes I would still love him but I do not want to deny him what he wants nor could I be happy in the life of motherhood.  Sometimes you just have to look out for number one (yourself) in your story of life.
