Party Wednesday: Cards Against Humanity

This game is so great to play with friends with a good sense of humor.  This week there isn’t any big production with the theme.  It is just the down and dirty basics of having a good time with your friends with good food and drink.  Let us relax and see the oh so dirty minds of your friends.

Décor

What you didn’t think I was going to let you off the hook this week?  Ha!  I did keep it supper simple and intimate.  For this party you will want a large table to fit all you food, drinks, and people around.  Next is to cover your table with a table cloth, I choose a black and white strips to go with the card game.

Finish things off with the right mood lighting.  For this go with an over head lamp hovering over your table.  Have it bright enough to illuminate the entire table and nothing else; much like an interrogation room.

Food

Scotch Egg

Pigs in a Blanket

Conch Fritters

Spotted Dick

Drink
Slow Comfortable Screw

Buttery Nipple

Burt Reynolds

Blow Job

I kept it simple this week do to many engagements that I am tied up in.  Here is a link to Card Against Humanity web site to buy a deck or learn some new rules to play by.  If you have suggestions or pictures of your own themed party, please share and send them to me.  See you on Friday for another rant or next week.

Party Wednesday: Injustice Gods Among Us

I am more partial towards Marvel than DC, but I still find it cool that they turned the DC universe into a fighting arena.  While still giving a nod to Mortal Kombat fighting genre Injustice pushes the boundaries of the traditional fighting games.  This week we will gather our friends and challenge each other to a battle to the death with our favorite DC heroes.

Décor

There are many arenas in Injustice and in each are different sectors of that arena. I’m going to focus on the Watchtower since that is were a majority of the characters gather (you know the Justice League).

This is going to be a tough one, I’m not going to lie, unless you or a friend owns a large warehouse or space station having a great imagination is a plus.  So as you can see in the picture above they are on a space station over looking Earth.  Ideally you will want to dedicate on side of the room to be “window” to over look earth and the stars.  You can do this one of two ways; the first is to have a projector and play a DVD of space.  Second method is to buy a laser star projector and get a large Earth wall decal.

Use metal tables that don’t show the leg like these beautiful side tables from Croft House:

Or you can buy metallic cloth and drape it over you table, be sure it hits the floor

The last item to add is the giant floating earth.  You can place is on its own table or at one of the selected food/drink tables.  I find the floating globes to be too small to get the right impact of you surveying the world.  You are more than welcome to buy one of these expensive items, or you can buy a giant inflatable globe (with base) and paint the continents a gold color.

Food

Batarang (chicken wings)

Aquaman’s Shark Bait (Crab Puffs)

Luthor’s Highest Currency (Beggar’s Purse)

Harley’s Cherry Bomb (Fiery Stuffed Cherry Pepper)

Drink
Kryptonite

Wonder Woman (Crush and Blush)

The Flash

Joker

For this party I would highly encourage you and your guests to dress up as the favorite DC hero or villain, here is a link to all the characters in the game IGN Injustice.  If you have suggestions or pictures of your own themed party, please share and send them to me.  See you on Friday for another rant or next week.

Party Wednesday: Mythbusters

I have to great pleasure of seeing Mythbusters Live this coming Saturday.  So instead of the traditional game theme, why not do Mythbusters.  Now this isn’t your traditional birthday party for a kid; this one is for adults.

Décor

This one is fairly simple compared to the past parties.  All you will need is a garage, some work benches and a black board.  Be sure to sweep up the garage and make sure it is fairly clean.  Clean up your work benches and disinfect, it’s where your food and drinks are going.  Any tools or random parts place on shelves and walls.

For the black board, hang up on the wall and write Mythbusters or science stuff on it-or for fun just write Science Stuff in big letters.  Here is a beautiful store that not only incorporates the chalk board idea but has a clean garage look to it too.  Side note, if I had a garage I would want it to look like this:

                I never really talk about plating or glass wear but for this party, it needs a science touch.  For plates I’m think tin or silver;

And for glass wear beakers, are a couple of varieties you can use.  You can purchase any of these items online.

Before I dive into food and drink we are miss a few key things from the show.  The first being Buster!  Now obtaining or buying a real crash test dummy is expensive but I found an inflatable mannequin that would work as a substitute.  All you would need to do is paint him.

No Mythbusters’ show would be complete without explosions.  Buy fireworks to set off, if you wish, please review your cities laws regarding fireworks.  You can also have people try some myths that they did on the show.  Here some links:

Food

Science themed food!  I tried to use foods or food items that they have used on Mythbusters

Salami Rocket Fuel:

Sleeping Turkey Sandwich

Musical Green Beans

Drink

Molotov cocktail

Vodka can kill bad breath

Exploding Rock Martini

Explosions, explosions, explosions.  That’s what I get out of Mythbusters.  I will let everyone know how the show was on Monday.  If you have suggestions or pictures of your own themed party, please share and send them to me.  See you on Friday for another rant or next week.

Party Wednesday: Tomb Raider (2013)

Are you having fun playing the new Tomb Raider game?  I sure am, even the death scenes are ridiculously over the top.  Let’s get down to business of making a Tomb Raider party fitting for the new Laura Croft.

Décor

What I like is that mixture of ancient Japan to World War 2 Japan along; both are withering away from the elements of the island.  Adding crates, life rings, nets, and drift wood in a couple of corners in the room will help create that washed ashore feeling  Adding Japanese metal lanterns, stone garden lanterns, and banners will tie in the Japanese elements.  For the table tops place fake moss over the top to make that decay and element look, you can buy this stuff on line or at craft stores.

Remember to place to moss threw out the room, apply it onto your chairs and couch.  For table settings wood serving bowls and plate add a nice touch to the tables.
You can buy them at target or amazon.

To top off the décor place behind a table-I would say the food table- the sacrifice shrine.  You know this thing you run into in the beginning:

Well this is the concept art but in the game you have a hanging dead corpus.  To make simply hang a white sheet add the necessary “blood”  then take some rope and use a fake skeleton from a Halloween store to hang.  Finally add red candles around the base of the shrine.  For the lighting use candles and the stone shrines that you have placed around the space.

Food

Keeping in the theme of finding what you can survive on the island, Laura mainly hunts deer and finds the occasional berries.  Well I wanted to keep with find what you can and added a bit more variety to the diet:

Venison Jerky:

Venison Lollipops:

Sashimi Tuna with sauce:

Marinated Japanese Mushrooms:

Drink

Amaterasu (aka Red Lotus)

Bloody Laura (Shandong Mary Cocktail)

Savage Bite (Ginger Beer Fizz)

This should give you a kick start on your tomb raiding adventures.  See you on Friday for another rant or next week.
