Wearing Many Hats

Hello little bots, sorry for the unexpected hiatus.  Last week I was out of town visiting my parents and just didn't feel like writing a blog.  But I'm back, finishing up on this mix for STIFF before Friday and looking for a part tie job. so lets jump into what's new with me.

Two weeks ago I helped out with Women in Film TST event, April's event was speed networking.  In one way I like it because you meet so many at once, but on the other hand you are stuck with someone you aren't interested in talking to or someone you want to talk to more times up and you have to move on.  At the event I meet a few people who may have possible future gig opportunities for me.  I just have to set up time and meetings with these people.  But I don't know my solid scheduled until I know for sure if I got this one job until the end of this week.

So I've been sending out vast amount of resumes to many companies for a varied positions.  This one company who uses those damn recruiter people to "help" you with sending them your resume.  Let me stress I hate recruiters, they don't know jack shit about half of the job description and and what you have on your resume.  This recruiter I had didn't know the job description well and had such a thick Indian accent that I couldn't understand him.   I've sent him a copy of my resume 3times, each time him asking me to redo it so I can add more detail information on my past work.  Mind you with each revision I've dumb down the description of what I did in each job so much that a 2 year old would understand.  Eventually I just gave up on him and found  a direct email to the company's hiring director.

Last week I went to the dentist for a cleaning, normal across the board.  But on Thursday my man had to go in for his wisdom teeth removal and 1 other tooth to be removed as well.  If you follow me on twitter you would have seen my conversation with him as he was getting them removed.  It freaked me out at first until I remembered he had his MS wrist band which he can text on.

For the past 4 days I was taking care of him, except when I had to run out on Friday for a job interview which I think I fucked up on and didn't get the job.  Unfortunately I wont know for sure until the end of this week when they have made there decision.

I also was out all day Saturday at a baby shower near my mom's house.  I didn't want to go to the shower, I find them boring, I have nothing in common with these people I went to high school with, and it serves as a reminder as one of the many reasons why I do not want children.  The only reason I went was because of my mother.  Which turned out she didn't want to go either.  We could have saved time and shipped our gifts to the new baby brat and be done with it!

After the shower I had to run all the way back to my house, check to make sure my man was still alive, and get ready for another event that night for a friends birthday party up on Capitol Hill.  This party/event I wanted to go to.  I had a blast, it was Thor themed and I wore my fuzzy viking hat and furry vest.  I got tipsy, danced all crazy, got caught up with friends that I haven't seen in forever, and just had a good time.

Now I just have to finish up this mix with some bad audio recordings that are supper reverby.   Luckily my director knows this and is understanding as to why some sounds cant be fixed in post.  Have a good week little bots and I will see you next Monday.

The Bug Bites Are Doubling

They are starting to multiply. Just when I think they are gone....Bam! 15 more show up. Summer is the season where the bugs come out and attack you, I really cant wait for fall. Normally in the city I can avoid being eaten alive, but this past weekend I went to a good friend of mines birthday party and I got eaten. Pretty bad, not going to lie. I've put itch relief and that is not helping. Maybe I should try an oatmeal bath....

But aside from becoming an insect's meal the party was great. Booze was flowing, people were getting there dancing on, and the snack foods were tasty. Did I mention that this was an 80's – 90's themed party. Sadly, or I should say, it was a good thing that I don’t have a picture of my self dressed up as an 80's workout instructor. My god I was totally tubular.

Since i'm not going to PAX this year I was able to see a sneak peak at my friend's Tali's alternate outfit that she is doing for PAX. I'm sad I wont see it in person so I hope she gets some decent pictures of herself while wear it.

Side note; earlier this week the BioWare store is releasing this supper adorable tank top. Click the image to pre order your now!

Thats it for this week little bots, just wanted to keep it short for you. Come back Friday for a rant or something.

Movie weekend and Parting

Happy Tuesday little bots, a day late but at least I am not skipping an up date. This past week I mostly played Destiny Beta on both systems just for comparison sake. Newsflash, not noticeable difference graphically or otherwise when comparing the two. I did a whole blog on how I felt about Destiny last friday and you can check it out here: Bitchn' Fridays: Destiny Beta Review

Friday night my man and I went to the movies to see Lucy staring Scarlett Johansson. I know quiet a few people and critics have bashed this film, mostly due to the tag line and the premise that humans use only 10% of their brain capacity. While yes this is 100% false, but if you take it as this is this films reality and think of it more fantasy than science fantasy you will enjoy more. Towards the end of the film it started reminding me of Akira, if you have never seen Akira you really need to it is a classic anime that many films have attempted to touch on. If you can relax and watch a film as a film and not over analyze every little detail of “science” that goes on, you will enjoy it.

Sunday we saw Hercules starting Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson. It was ok, it was not the Hercules movie that everyone has been waiting to see. Instead of the 12 labors, which Hercules is known for, and being a true demi-god that he is. What we got was a “realistic” Hercules, who is a leader of a mercenary group, and a story line taking place after the 12 labors that no one really cares about. You do have great PG-13 fight scenes and Dwayne Johnson did a good job, it is more or a rental flick than a go out to the movies type. Hell, Lucy crushed it at the box office.

Aside from movie going, I attended a friend's annual midsummer party. You usually dress up as faeries or other woodland creatures and come eat and drink the night away. I of course went as Catbug, it's the only wings that I have people, and drank a little to much. By a little to much I mean I some how wounded up in a bikini and jumping into a hot tub with a bunch of people I barley know. But good times all around and I left early...12am-ish I think...
My friend and I at the party...I was already 3 sheets to the wind at this point.
Well this week its back to the grind stone of finding work or at least a temp job. Maybe I'll see Guardians of the Galaxy, I don’t know yet, but I will be going to my favorite place to get chilli: The Chilli Shack with some friends. See you back here friday for some rant of some kind.

Bitchin’ Friday: How To Pull Off An Event

Last night I attended Carol Corp Celebration thanks to my wonderful friend, which I totally owe her something Hello Kitty related.  The event was held at the Museum of Flight, a perfect place for this event, and it started at 7pm.  Over all it was a good event, but I found it lacking in the presenting department.  I’ve noticed a trend lately regarding nerd/geeky events be it lack of organization, venue, or something as simple as a brief presentation can hinder an event from becoming a great event.

Lets Start off with the obvious, Venue.  When picking a place for an anticipated large crowed, or even knowing that it is coinciding with a convention, you will need to rent out a large enough space for the maximum amount of people you believe will show. If you find that more people have shown up to the event than anticipated, then you need to limit how many people can go inside.  As soon as a group leave allow more people in.  People generally do not like to be squished in like sardines.  A flow of traffic between bar, food and other venders makes a more pleasurable experience.
Next is ORGANIZATION.  If you are even off your game by a little bit, the whole crowd will feel it. This boils down to timing, for example food being brought out or opening your doors on time and not having you guest wait 30 minutes in the cold, and checklists.   Checklists will keep your event going off without a hitch and makes sure that everything starts on time.
Finally Presentation.   This can something as simple as decorating the venue to fit in with the theme or have a brief speech to welcome your guests and thank the sponsors.  While this may seem to be the lesser of the three but it is the one that guests will first see and remember most of all.  This is where all your hard work has paid off and you see the fruits of your labor.

Hope this gives some assistance to any event coordinator out there next time they are planning an event.  What are your horror stores attending events, let me know in the comment section below.  This weekend is Emerald City Comic Con; I will be attending Saturday and Sunday as Wonder Woman (bombshell and rock star versions).  If you spot me come say hi take a picture.

Party Wednesday: Cosmos Viewing Party

If you were a kid growing up in the 80’s or 90’s you have probably have seen the documentary series Cosmos re-running on PBS.  I loved watching this series with my dad when I was younger and brought out discussions on different theories of the universe and science in my family.  When I heard that FOX (what?) was presenting an hour long 13 episode series as a follow up to the original Cosmos; my heart was a little worried because FOX was presenting it but then I was over filled with joy that the host was going to be Neil deGrasse Tyson.  Even if this is going to be a dumb down version to appeal to a wider audience at least it will be a starting point of discussion for science.
Now what does this have to do with a party theme?  Well for starters if you and your friends like to sit around discussing science then why not gather around the old boob tube and watch this series and have a discussion afterwards.  Regardless if it is good or bad any time you can gather with your crew to have a few drinks and talk is a good night.

Décor

For you lighting find a star projector and have it set up to have the stars projected up on the ceiling.

Also set up a regular DVD projector and create a looping video of images of space.
Like this for example.

For additional lighting to see your food and to place along the room, you can make these glow stick jars that you make to look like a DNA strand or these cool brick glowing light bulbs to spark imagination.

For your table, keep it simple with a black table cloth, you will have plenty of food and light decorations to cover it with.  Plate and flat wear, you can buy some online that feature different nebulas and galaxies.

Now I suspect that not every one will be able to sit on the couch.  An alternative is to create a padded and blanketed area in front of the couch for them.  You can throw down multiple rugs, blankets and pillows for their comfort.  Jazz it up with some throw blankets and pillows that have galaxies and nebulas on them.

Your Friends will be enlightened by the party that you have thrown… or drunk and passed out across your living room.  Either way it will be a good party all around.  The show Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey premiers March 9 at 9pm on FOX.
Like always I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions on what I should do for the next Party Wednesday; or have pics you would like to share just send them my way.  See you Friday for some ranting or whatever.

Party Wednesday: 8 Bit Valentines

Valentines Day is only 2 day’s way, what are you doing for your loved one?  Me, I’m doing jack shit.  No fancy dinner or going out, just being lazy and playing video games.  If you want to do something for your loved one, or plan on doing a romantic dinner in the near future why not make it a throw back style of classic video games.

Décor

Lighting is the one key to setting the tone for romance.  It is harder to put the moves on in a well light room than it is in a dim room.  For our romantic dinner we are going with soft red lighting scheme.  You want to go for more of a bedroom sunset feel rather than a red light district selling off prostitutes.

Suspend from the ceiling and place along the walls 8 bit hearts and flowers.  You can easily print off a bunch of hearts and flowers, glue them on to cardboard.  The cardboard makes the images pop out more form the wall and with hang a little sturdier.

Or

Moving onto the table, use a tall square table and drape this lovely fabric over it.  This particular fabric I found on Spoonflower and I find that it ties into the 8 bitness well.

For your centerpiece have 4 bouquets of 8 bit flowers.

For dinner I planed out a sushi dinner, that way you can share and be interactive with each other.  I found a couple of plates that fit that retro 8 bit style:

Or

Champagne brings out the giddiness in a woman (sometimes a man).  I found this cool champagne glasses that your have to keep together in a vase.   Instead of filling the vase with sand (like it is pictured below) why not fill it with tiny legos and bricks.

And to eat your sushi, you can go with a traditional pair of chopsticks or find some Lego ones!

Don’t forget to change into a nice shirt and pants.  Style it with an 8 bit tie of bow tie!

Food

Fancy up your sushi with some designer nori!

Osaka Style Sushi

Square Kiwifruit Sushi

Bubur Cha Cha

Drink

Rose Champagne

Veuve Clicquot, Vintage Rosé Brut 2004

Peach’s Cake

Sexy Night Cap aka Baton Rouge

Gifts

Yes even though you put together this wonderful meal and evening, you still need to get them a gift so they will always remember this night.

8 Bit Heart Necklace

8 Bit Watch

Fully Functional Wooden NES Controller Coffee Table (a great way to end the evening with both of you playing old games together)

With pixilated moves like you will be putting on your lady or gentleman you are sure to score some point with them.  Like always I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions on what I should do for the next Party Wednesday; or have pics you would like to share just send them my way.  See you Friday for some ranting or whatever.
