Bitchin’ Fridays: Defiance the Game review

This week I thought I would do a game review on a gamed that I had been playing for the past month.  The game was Defiance, and never in my life have I been so frustrated at am MMO style game.  Not for the excessively repetitive quests but for the updating and the constant getting screwed over by the game it’s self.

Defiance is a tie into the Syfy of the same name developed by Trion Worlds.  Set in a devastated San Francisco Bay area after a war between humans and alien alliance of extraterrestrial races; your character is an Ark Hunter (basically a mercenary for hire) assisting Karl Von Bach in search of advanced and valuable arktech.  You start off by crash landing in the Bay area away from your boss and from there the typical walk threw on how to play starts.
At first I like playing this game (played it on the 360) it is open world and you can interact with vast amount of players to complete quests with out the fear of someone trying to kill you.  I could play with friend in a relaxing environment and do what ever we want.  It was nice to have this MMO experience brought to the counsels but that quickly demolished as I continued to play.
My first big gripe is when I first installed the game.  It took for ever to install which is fine but to then open the game to only find over an hours worth of patching updates that needed to be installed before I can play sucks.  I understand why they have so many patches (the game is buggy as hell) but to come off the bat saying that your game is so problematic at launch that it needed over and hour’s worth of patching screams that you needed more time to work on this game.
            Second gripe is the servers.
You get this

Or this

Or even this:

It is beyond frustrating to go login and try to play a game to only be denied.   To put it simply,

Ok so eventually I am able to log in and play.  After the first initial tutorial level that only teaches you how to fight and pick your perks you are thrown into the world with out any more help.  Trust me you need an extra tutorial on how to modify weapons, how to use the rest of your menu screen, and other world interactions like what is a lock box or key codes and why do I need to buy these things.  The game did not come with an instruction manual so I had research online on how to do everything in the game and even how to log out.  Oh and by the way to log out is a separate screen that can only be accessed by opening up the main menu and holding down the left trigger button to access it.
Once you have figured out how to play it is fun, for a while.  Eventually the game play gets repetitive (like many other MMO’s) and even the Ark fall events get boring and repetitive.  What really irks me is when I’m playing with friends and they are a few missions below me and they go do a main mission, half the time I cannot help them.  They disappear for 15 minutes at a time and I sit around doing nothing.  It take the fun out of playing with your friends.
The straw that broke the camels back for me was when the game fucked me over.  There are times that I would have to hit and hold the x button and the game would not register it and I would have to repeater my action multiple times before it would register.  Another thing is when I am fighting enemies and I am almost done and poof 15 random enemies would spawn up and kill me.  The last thing that I hated about this game was the inconstancies with your death and respawn.  This usually happens in a boss fight.  I would be down for the first time and cant get back up and die, but other times when I can immediately get back up and continue to fight.
Over all this game had started off well and a good start for future of MMo’s on the consol but this game feels more like and experiment and a waste of time, money, and disk space.  I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this and if you have any suggestions on what I should bitch about next week leave me a comment.  See you Monday for a wrap up of my week.

Nothing New in the Neighborhood

Last week I just didn’t want to write.   Between coming back home and organizing my apartment this blog feel be the wayside.  Not a whole lot has happened but let me just give you a run down:
  • Secret  photo shoot was canceled due to the gallery not supporting the artists idea
  • Been waiting for over 2 weeks for any communication with the composer for silly boys so I can do the mix and be done with this project.
  • Saw 3 movies, This is The End=excellent comedy, Man of Steal=first 3rd of the film was good the rest was mediocre and horrible mic static, World War Z = good zombie thriller.
  • Attended “The Best Happy Hour” at the Seattle Center with a good friend.  Loads of fun and free admission is a plus.
  • The apartment is unbearably warm
  • Getting close to finishing the main story in Defiance
  • Hung out with a good friend and her new beau

So that is that, job hunting is a bitch as always but a girl needs to support herself.  Be sure to follow me on twitter for what’s happening in my life.

Bitchin’ Fridays: E3 and the Out come for Xbox One

Last week was E3 and the whole gamer nation was watch for the next round of console wars to start up.  I’ll admit that PlayStation had the better conference than Xbox, but what got to me was the negative feed back from the internet.  You must have read on twitter and facebook the big blow out against Microsoft and their new policies on DMR, sharing games, and connecting once a day online.

Well this week Microsoft came out with a statement regarding the back lash.  In that statement they said they are going to reverse their used-game policy to the one that exists today and to eliminate the 24-hour online check-in policy entirely.  This was a smart move on Microsoft’s end but for me it infuriates me that the internet has once again fucked with something great.
What really bugs me was the fact that a minority of people who went online to complain about something they knew nothing about.  If they did even a little bit of research about the new DMR that Microsoft was going to implement it might have changed there tune.  A great blog was posted a few days ago that covers this ordeal better than I could even express; “The Internet Just Made Microsoft Kill a Car for a Faster Horse.”  This piece really dives into the issues of companies bending to the will of the minority side of there consumers.
I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this and if you have any suggestions on what I should bitch about next week leave me a comment.  See you Monday for a proper wrap up.

Quick briefing

This is going to be short and sweet.  I am away to my parents home this weekend, I'm there now, so that means no rant today and Monday's blog will be late.  Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather if you are in western Washington!

Done With Parties…For Now

While I am trying to write out my past week of events and adventures, it is a little hard to do with the Xbox E3 conference playing in the back ground.  But I will try to type and listen at the same time.  Can you believe how shiny those horses were on Metal Gear Solid game play?
Let me get all the SIFF movies and parties out of the way.  First up is the Gay-la; this was suppose to be the “wilder” parties but my man and I found it relatively tame.  The film that night was G.B.F (also known as gay best friend) and it was ok, a very predictable movie but still entertaining.  The after party was at a night club and when we arrived all the food was pretty much gone (thanks food hoarders) and people were acting like wall flowers and not dancing.  Well we showed them and dance for a while and left.

The last Saturday party was for “industry” people. The film prior to the party event was horrible.  I would highly recommend avoid seeing Drinking Buddies.  No plot, no sound mixing or any real audio clean-up, and flat characters that you don’t care about.  The party was ok, still full of people there for food, not a whole lot of industry people that I meet.  Just students looking for inspiration and hope but I know that a lot of them will not make it.
The closing night gala was wonderful.  The film was ok, The Bling Ring, but needed to develop the characters more.  It was held at the Cinerama where I had chocolate popcorn for the first time, and oh god it is good!  The after party was at the MOHI (museum of history and industry), the layout was perfect.  Plenty of drink stations, a lot of servers walking around with a variety of food, along one wall was dedicated to just food, and there was space for a dance floor.  The best part was the ability to walk around the entire museum; it made me feel like I was at a high end party in this setting.
SIFF was great and I will be back next year; don’t know yet if I will get the party pass of not though.  Also this past week I bought a beautiful green wiggle dress for a supper secret photo shoot with a friend of mine, stay tuned for more info and pictures later.  Be sure to follow me on twitter for what’s happening in my life.

Bitchin’ Fridays: Food Hoarders

I have been enjoying myself these past couple of week at the SIFF parties.  The films have been decent and entertaining and the same with the after parties.  The alcohol is plentiful but the food at time appears to be scarce if you show up late to the parties.  They still bring food out but it is still not enough and I know the reason why.
Food hoarders are those type of people who will take there plate and pile on 10 pieces of food onto there plates.  This may seem like an exaggeration but I have seen it at these parties.   There is a line of people waiting to grab a little Hors d'oeuvre and the person a head of you in line take the last one even though they have 3 of the same item on there plate.

Over all it is plain rude to fellow guests.  Rule of thumb should always be no more than two of each item.  If you like a particular item then you can get back inline for more.  Just remember to be considerate and this isn’t an all you can eat buffet.
This is the last weekend of SIFF parties and the festival, I am unsure if I am going to do a Party blog for next week.  I have a little project coming up with a friend of mine so stay tuned for more information on that.  See you all on Monday.

Good Food Keeps On Coming

Happy Monday to everyone, I have been desperately trying to avoid all the Game of Thrones spoilers from last nights show.  If you want to ruin it for me be prepared for a word lash to the likes of which you have never read!  On that note let me sum up my past week for you.

I have been trying to get use to having long finger nails but I am afraid I am not that kind of girl and will need to cut them soon for my sanity and typing sake.  Tuesday my parents came over to visit man and I.  They game my man his late birthday present it was a waffle iron.  We went to Pikes market and had a delicious lunch at Matt’s in the Market.  The food is good but a tad bit over priced, cocktails was a little bit skimpy, and seemed like a place hipsters would hang out.  After our lunch my parents were kind enough to buy us meat and vegetables.  It was a nice afternoon visit and my dad brought me a hat fro Peru!  I will have to post a pic of it soon!

Wednesday instead of going to my usual film & music happy hour, I went on a double date with my man and his coworker.  We had a lovely time and ate at Peso’s Kitchen, the food and drinks were decent and happy hour menu was large and not that pricy.  It was nice to hang out with people on a one on one and enjoy some drinks and conversation.

Saturday was the Centerfold Gala for SIFF; the film was Twenty Feet from Stardom.  It is a documentary about backup singers from the early 60’s to today.  A couple of the ladies, Tata Vega and Merry Clayton, from the film were there and even sang for us after the film.  The after party was at a large house up in Capitol Hill.  It was a good party aside from the lack of food (mainly due to people piling up a huge mound on their plate I will be ranting about this on Friday) and some ass trying to dump there mother on my man and I so she could leave the party.  I’m sorry rude daughter, but I am not a sitter if I was I would be charging you an arm and a leg for it.

This week it the last week of SIFF parties.  I have the Gay-la on Wednesday, Saturday is a film maker party and film event, and Sunday is the Closing night gala.  Let us see just how well I can type on Monday.  Be sure to follow me on twitter for more up to date events and happening in my life.
