Cosplay Thoughts And Re-Edits

Hi there little bots, hope you all are having a good Monday.  Good news, this past week I did put out a Friday blog, the bad I might not do one this week...oops.  As far as my past week has been, it was busy and much has been accomplished.

Monday I received my revision edits from Team Awesome, spent a good portion of the week tweaking air sound sound and now my eyes twitch every time i hear white noise.  The good news is I got to work on mixing, I know it is not perfect but once the dialog is completed and in the hands of the mixer all my sound effects will blend harmoniously.    Fingers crossed that they like me enough to keep me on for future projects.
Aside from fixing audio, I have been planing out my cosplay for RTX.  I believe I mentioned that I was going to do drunken Burnie from Rooster Teeth as catbug.  I've found the perfect dress but it is ivory so i will be experimenting on dyeing fabric and praying it turns out ok.  All I need to do is dye a dress, cut a wig, paint ears, bead the top of the dress, make wings that I can transport from Seattle to Austin in a carry on bag, and finally make a harness rig for the wings.  Found a design that will work so it doesn't look like I'm wearing a back pack with a dress.  I found a beautiful design that I am going to mimic from a etsy designer.  The store is called Atelier Sylphe Corsetry
 and this is the design:

I think it will look marvelous.

This past weekend my man and I went out to breakfast and dinner at Local 360.  As always the food there is good.  We also ran errands and become slobs.  As usual, our Sunday night routine is to watch Game of Thrones, and of course nothing really happens until the last 15 minutes of the show.  But I am so glad they are showing more of the White Walkers, I cant wait for winter to finally come!

This week I have a eye doctor appointment and I plan on spending some time with my mom this week.  Also a head up to anyone living in or around Seattle, go see my short film playing at STIFF next Tuesday.  Buy tickets here: Short Doc Block.

Bitchn' Friday: More Shameless Self Promotion

Happy Friday my little Bots, see I did manage to post something up today. So what if it is me shamelessly promoting a film that I worked on. Haha ha, hum....
Well lets get down to it.

A few months ago I mentioned that I was working on a documentary short, well now it's starting to make it's way around the festival circuit. It's kicking off tonight, then it will have a run at the Seattle true independent film festival (or STIFF for short) starting on May 6th. Fingers crossed for more festivals to come. For more information about the film, it's call Unified Struggle FYI, you can check out a sweet article here: “Unified Struggle” film tackles deportation, justice, and activism
Ticket information for the STIFF event here: STIFF
and here is the trailer for the film:

If you cant make it out to view it that's ok, you can always view other films that i've done if you have Netflix or Hulu account. The films are The Ordinary Skier and Carbon Nation, both are documentaries and a run time of about 90 minutes each.

Ok I'm done promoting myself, but I will be at the STIFF showing on May 6th. Come say hi and support local film makers. See you Monday for a wrap up of my week.

Foley Work And Crunch Time

Happy Monday to you little bots, my apologies for not writing a rant or review this past Friday. Last week I was busy finishing up that project for Team Awesome to turn in by Saturday. Happily I was able to complete this task on time and even had the whole weekend to relax and catch up on some shows. I'm getting ahead of myself now.
Monday threw Wednesday I was completely absorbed with Foley work and recording. Probably one of the most fun parts in post production audio, for me anyway, is working on Foley. Being able to get into a hot stuffy room with no air conditioning wearing only the bare minimum so I will not create extra noise as I preform is exhilarating. While it might not be the most fun during the summer months, I still enjoy it. It is rare for me to find work where the director wants Foley, but when I can do it I feel like a giddy school girl once again. Not that I was the most cheerful kid in high school, one might say I was a little bit goth mixed with skater punk. This was the years before emo kids became a big thing.
When I wasn’t sweating my butt off preforming, I was fine tuning my recordings to make sure that they matched up to the picture. No matter what you always have to do some editing and cleaning up your recorded audio tracks. Even if it is off my a half a frame, it is noticeable and will throw you off. Which is why Friday I didn’t post anything, to busy double checking and tweaking my tracks.
Once I finally finished and sent off my Foley and ambiance/background tracks I relaxed by watching season 2 of Legend of Kora and playing games with my man. Season 2 of LoK I felt the writing was weak and very dumb down for the audience. It was also rushed at the end and made me feel meh when I was threw watching it. I know they are doing a season 3 of this show but I don’t know if I will watch it, maybe if they have a sale on it on Microsoft market place.
Hope you bots had a good Easter, I know I did. This week will probably consist of some Foley for Team Awesome, make changes to to my edits when I hear back from them and send out more resumes. God I hate writing cover letters.

Humming Air Conditioners And Working

Last week I mentioned that I had another Skype meting with the composer for last Monday. If you recalled I mentioned that I had my doubts that he would show up for our meeting. Low and be hold I was correct. Never showed up and didn’t email me until well after our meeting. According to him his girlfriend was being released from the hospital that day and he wanted to be there for her; which is fine but when someone is being released fro the hospital they and the person who is picking them up has at least a 12 hour notice. If you knew she was being released that day then why not send an email before the meeting to explain your situation. Needless to say I have no future plans on working with this composer in the near future. I understand situations come up, but to not send at least an email prior to a meeting twice is unacceptable.

The rest of the week has been peachy. Working on the background/ambient sounds for Team Awesome, trying to make a closed off meeting room sound compelling without it sounding like an air conditioner rattling away. Had to take a break from it this week so I can complete the Foley for this short then if I have time to go back to the BG's to tweak it some more.

This weekend I took a little break and went outside to enjoy the sun and grab some ginger beer at Pikes Market. It's kinda nice just to relax and do nothing for a weekend. Oh and I started to replay the first Walking Dead game from Telltail games. Just seeing the different options that I didn’t make the first time around. I also need to play The Wolf Among Us at some point as well.

This week I plan on finishing the Foley for Team Awesome. I also have to have dinner with my man's mom. We haven’t spoken to each other since we blew up at one another on Facebook two years ago. In my defense I was defending my man from false accusations made by his older sister. So this dinner will be interesting, stay tuned to see if I live threw it.

Bitch'n Friday: Relationship Advice

Everyone and their mom can tell you the do's and dont's of dating and relationships.  When you are in one you don't want to hear it, especially from someone whose longest relationship only lasted less than six months.  But their are some advices that you should follow.

    COMMUNICATION!
This above all else is the most important in any relationship.  If something is bugging you relationship wise, talk to your partner.  Do not ever go to your friends or family (unless your partner is doing something illegal or is abusive then by all means get out, tell someone, and don't go back without a police escort) to bitch about your issues with them leaving like dirty dishes in the sink or not texting back right away.  A lot of times friends who may not particularly like your choice in a partner might lead you down a path where you will inevitably break up.
Relationships have their up and downs, by being able to talk about issues that may come up it is easier to solve with two people than it is with outside influences voicing there opinions.  Even if your partner is closed off and doesn't like confrontation you still need to press the issue of always being there to talk about anything that has to do with the relationship or life in general.
I'm one of those people who prefer to keep their emotions bottled up and stew over a matter rather than talk it out, but over time my man has shown me time and time again that it is better to talk it out then let it boil up inside and have an irrational out burst.  By keeping communication open with your partner you will find that your relationship will last longer and you will find that you can communicate better in other areas in your life as well.

     TRUST
If you cant trust your partner at all, then your relationship is doomed to fail.  Everyone once in a while wonders if their partner is cheating on you with someone else, or hiding money from you, but it is important to what was that again kids....COMMUNICATE!  Told you it is the most important advice to follow.  Talk to your partner about your insecurities and your feelings before you feel the need to hack into their phone or computer.  That is a very quick way for your partner to not to trust you and there starts the troubles of your relationship.

    TAKE A BREAK
When I say take a break I do not mean separate from each other for a couple of months so you can go screw other people, again that is how break the trust of the other person.  What I mean is to have a little R&R time for yourself with out your partner.  This can an afternoon reading by yourself, go shopping with friends, or going for a walk around the neighborhood.  During this time you can detox yourself from the relationship, reflect upon it, or even not think about it at all.  You time is important.  When you get back from your break your relationship feels that much sweeter.

So that is my two cents to throw at you my lovely bots.  I've been with the same man for over 8 years now, and been living together for 7 of those years, yes we have had our ups and downs but we have worked threw those rough times only to make us stronger in our relationship.  I know every relationship is different, I would love to hear some your your own advice or relationship love/horror stories.  Leave them in the comments below.  I might come back to this subject again to talk about some relationship donts and stupid advice from "professionals".

Clean Teeth and Skype Calls

This past week was slightly less eventful and full of meeting prep.  Last week I was recovering from the convention and making plans for two separate meetings for two different projects.  I also had to plan then around my visit to my mom’s for my dental appointment.
Sunday evening I received an email from a composer looking to work with me on a couple of projects.  After some back and forth emailing, we agreed upon a Skype meeting for Friday night.  The following day I heard back from Team Awesome, whom I meet last week at the Show your Shorts event and they wanted to work with me for one of their shorts as a background and Foley artist.  I setup a meeting with them for Saturday at 2pm via Skype.
So awesome I have some meetings/work coming my way and now off to mom’s house for a dental appointment and a brief R&R from the con.  When I arrived I was surprised to see my sister there, sick and with out her family.  Apparently they arrived Sunday night and were going to go camping but my sister caught a cold and so her family is staying with her husband’s parents until she is feeling better.  Quiet frankly while I was there yes she had a cold but damn, she was milking it for all it was worth.
Wednesday came and went as did my dental appointment, clean teeth perfect as always.  I left the following morning back to a pig sty in my apartment.  Apparently my man can function when I’m not there, so I had to clean that mess up, oh joy.
Friday came and I prepped for my first Skype meeting with the composer.  I tried to re-watch the film he sent me on Vemio but the video was no longer up.  So I went digging on this composer and all I could find on him was his twitter page and one sound could file.  Apparently this kid is starting out and it appears this will be his first film.  Which is ok, but I don’t know this guys track record and will make me proceed with caution if I end up working with him.
So I hope on my computer ready to go at 5:30 for my 6 o’clock meeting.  Six came and went, no word from this guy ant even an email.  I waited around until 6:45 and said fuck it and closed out of Skype.  I sent a nice email to make another Skype call for Monday at 3pm.  Didn’t hear back for the guy until 10pm.  Apparently his girlfriend had to undergo an emergency surgery Thursday night and he was with her all of Thursday and Friday.  I’m a little skeptical, it is quiet possible his girlfriend was in the hospital and I under stand that but pretty much everyone has a smart phone and to even send a quick email at some point before our meeting would have been nice. Let’s see if he makes it to this Skype meeting.
Saturday’s meeting went a lot better.  Ten minutes before I received the files for the film, and we started out meeting on time.  It was a quick ten minute meeting, with a hiccup due to pro tools being on.  But it went well, we both felt that we were on the same page and I have plenty of time to work on the ambience and Foley for the film.  I’m very excited to work with team Awesome and want to prove myself to them so we can collaborate on more projects together.  I’ve set myself a goal to have the ambience done and presented to them no later than Friday.  That way they have the weekend to review and make comments so I can fix what they do not like about it.
The rest of the weekend I say Captain America movie.  It was ok, predictable and you never felt like the Captain was ever getting his butt kicked.  I also finally hung up the prints that my man and I bought at ECCC, our bedroom now has some color in it.
This week I’m working on the Team Awesome film and also looking for steady a steady job.  I need to be making money on at least a weekly bias, even if it is some part time work.  I will still be looking for film work but until I get some steady cliental work or working at a post house it is looking like my sound career will be on the side burner.  Not the back burner cause I’ve found if you but something their it is lost and charred forever.
