New Year Resolutions

Last Week, well maybe more like last two days of this year.  Reflecting back it has bee a good year socially for me but not so much career/job wise.  The blog (according to my view counter) has been growing in number of bots coming to my site, thank you.  And Christmas went well with my family.

All last week I was over at my parent’s house eating fatty foods and consuming large amounts of alcohol.  The gifts I received were all things I need for the apartment or daily needs.  The time with my family was good but I am glad to be home with the cats and my man.

As with every New Year many people decide what resolutions they will throw upon themselves.  For many it is the act of losing weight, finding better jobs, travel.  While I personally do not participate in New Year resolutions (mainly due to the resolution being dropped or forgotten with in a few weeks of declaration) this year I do plan on making and keeping with one resolution:
                                    BE AGGRESSIVE
By this I mean to be more insistent in hunting and applying for jobs.  Ignoring people who try to talk to me on the streets, the only time I will talk to a stranger is at social events and conventions.  I need to be a little less nice and be assertive.  With this plan I shall take over the world!  Or at least give off that facade.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?  Did you also have a good Christmas?  Let me know in the comments below.

Anniversary Time!

Hey everybody, hope your weekend was as good as mine.  As you can see from the title I am celebrating 2 anniversaries’s this year; the first being one year blogging, the other and more important one is 8 years with my man.
We have been dating for 8 years to this date.  At times we may have had our share of fight, but luckily for us they are few and far between.  The key to a successful relationship is communication.  You don’t communicate you will fail.  Another reason why so many people fail in marriage or a long term relationship.
Many people have asked us if we are ever going to get married.  Our answer to that is eventually.  By this we mean when we are old and need to write each other in our wills.  I have found that getting married doesn’t have the perks like it use to, the tax breaks are not as good and it is a pain to cover both spouses in medical insurance.  Why rock the boat when we are perfectly content on the way things are in the relationship.

In other news, this past weekend was awesome! Friday we went out on our annual tradition for seeing Land of the Sweets Nutcracker, a burlesque rendition of the Nutcracker.  We, as a couple, have been going for the past 3 years and this year we went with friends.  We had amazing seats, and now we will for out $60 per seat to sit up front.  If you are in Seattle during the holiday season, I highly recommend see it.

Saturday we went out with another couple who shares the same anniversary as us.  We sent the evening drinking at martini bars and dinner at our favorite restaurant.  To say I was tipsy that night is an understatement.  I really needed Sunday to recoup and prepare myself for this up coming week.

Today I am preparing a wonderful dinner for my man.  I don’t know if I will have time for a Friday’s blog due to Christmas and family engagements.   If I don’t, happy holidays my little bots.  I will see you next week for a final hoo raw of this year.

Bitchin Friday: News and Coming Soon Stuff

Hey little bots as we come up on our 1 year of this blog, I thought I would share with you what I am planning on for the next year.

For starters I just want to announce that I have set up a Patreon page.  What is Patreon?  Patreon is a site where fans go to support and engage with the artists and creators they love.  You can donate or pledge money for your artist/creators and become a patron to them.  Creators depending on the amount the patron donates will receive special rewards.  Rewards depend on what the creator want to do, but it is another great way to interact with them.
I first heard about this threw a friend of mine on Monday.  I went to check it out and singed up for it the following day.  Come Wednesday another friend of mine comment that she was thinking of joining up and that put my butt into gear to get my page up and running so we could compare notes. The setup is easy and I won’t go into the details, you can go to the web site to check it out your self.
So what does this mean for you, well it just means that you can help me out by kicking me some money to help pay bills and do more content for the blog.  This does not mean you will have to start paying to view the blog.  I repeat: THE BLOG WILL STILL BE FREE TO VIEW.  The money is A) a good motivator to continue my weekly schedule and B) to help build more content for this blog.
You can check out Patreon and my Patreon page by click on the pictures down below.

                                                                          Patreon

                                                                     My Patreon

Now you must be asking what other content could you do to this blog?  Simple, YouTube videos.

What will I do on these YouTube videos?  Well for starters I would do a little blogging and some let’s plays, but I really would like to focus on geek party themes.  I would show you the setup in decorations or how to make them, followed by making themed dishes and cocktails.  I would be your go to for how to throw say a Hobbit party (eh get the plug).
Regardless on wither or not I make money off of Patreon, I do still plan to start up a YouTube channel some time in the next year.

Thanks for all your support little internet bots and if you feel like it please come support me on Patreon.  Have a great weekend; I know I will be kicking it off with some burlesque shows.

See you on the other side.

Party Wednesday: Hobbit Feast

This time of year, many of us indulge in feasts and bounty of the year.  For some we look forward to eating our selves out of our pants.  Hobbits are the same way, but year round.  With the latest Hobbit movie out what better time to celebrate Tolkien’s epic novels that feature one of your favorite mythical creatures.

Décor

I originally wanted to set the party in the Shire but with it being winter it would be very uncomfortable for the guests to stand out in the cold.  So we will take it indoors, while we can’t completely redesign the interior of your home into a hobbit hole.  Instead you think you are stepping into a hobbit home but instead stepping into a little journey to get to your table at the Prancing Pony.  I would highly encourage your guests to dress up as there favorite characters.

            Front Door

Once threw, create an entryway using dead wood and “spider webs” to symbolize Mirkwood.

Once threw the woods your guests will enter the Prancing Pony.  In most inns and taverns there are barrels of wine ling about.  If you can’t get barrels, then stacking wooden boxes on top of each other will work.  On top of your barrels or boxes place candles and some wild flowers.

Low lighting is key if you can only use candles to light up the entire room.  If you cant use a dimmer to turn the lights low.   Have a large chandelier made out of antler to enhance that rustic feel.

For a few more decorations, add Tavern signs from other taverns or liquor brands from Middle Earth.  You can also add some animal heads to give it that cozy feel.

Your food will be served family style, no need to do a center piece your food is the star.  What you will need is a large wooden table big enough to hold both your food and guests.

As for the flatware and utensils here are some examples on what you could use.

Food
Pork Pie

Roasted Chicken

Cheese Plate

Mushroom Soup

Eleven Lembas Bread Recipe

Seed Cake

Drink

Sparkling Cider

Smaug’s Breath

Mulled Wine

And here is your Hobbit Feast.  Hope you and your guest will fill up on this part to hold you over until the next movie comes out.  Like always I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions on what I should do for the next Party Wednesday; or have pics you would like to share just send them my way.  See you Friday for some ranting or whatever.

Secret Santa’s and White Elephants

Hi Ya everybody! Still nursing my body back into shape and trying to ignore the fact that my gut is inching outward instead of inwards.  Curses to the holidays for all the nummy foods and drinks.  So yeah my week has consisted of parties and pond hoping to my mom’s and back.

Monday I decided to go over and visit my mom’s house to spend some time with her before the holiday crowd rolls in.  Also I need to buys some party supplies and it is cheaper over there than in the city.  I sent a majority or the week over there buying and hanging out.  When I did return it was for the 2 nights of parting.

The first party was my man’s annual holiday party, can your really call it a holiday party when you do secret Santa?  There was good food (potluck style) with dirty themes to the food.  We did blue waffles… don’t look that up.  Also there was secret Santa and a Killer Instinct tournament.  At the end we all watched Jingle all the way in true mystery science theater 3000 experience.

The second party was the Viking party.  We only knew a few people but once we found the Canadian we knew we were in good company.  It started off with a card game called Story War, if you never played it is a blast.  This was followed up with drinking and more drink, some where in-between inappropriate jokes about Canadians and black people.  This is the kind of party where politically correctness goes out the window.  We also did white elephant.  I wound up picking out and keeping 3 epic white elephant gifts.  They were:
Sombrero
Dolly Parton’s book, appropriately called “Dolly”
Don J Black “The Battle with Satan to Stay Morally Clean” cassette tape.

The last one id so ironic and funny that I have to share with you the summery written on the back:

An inspiring speaker, Don Black directs his message to the your of today (1986).
This is an excellent lecture in which he sensitively discusses the issue of chastity.
He states the husband and wife have the only legal use of intimate relations.
God has never changed that---never will.
The love-making expression has never been approved as a form of recreation out of wedlock.
Brother Black tastefully defines and explains kissing, necking, light and heavy petting.  He provides cautions and guidelines that can be followed by those that wish to avoid the pitfalls of early intimacy, but does not leave those who have fallen without hope.
This outstanding lecture can be shared with mixed groups of youth without any embarrassment.  It can be an excellent teaching tool for both parents and youth leaders.

Oh my god I just about died from laughter when I first read it.  I need to find a cassette player and turn this baby into a drinking game.

As for the rest of the weekend, my man and I ran around town buying supplies and a new cat tree for the girls.  Tali loves it, but my baby Neko is unsure.  We also meet up with my mom over in Bainbridge for some lunch and gifts for my man.  He has to work Christmas so why he gets his gifts early.

For this week I will have a party Wednesday up.  Look for it in the afternoon on Wednesday.  Have good week little bots and try to get your shopping done soon!

Bitchin Friday: Self Sabotage

The arctic chill is gone from Seattle, and with it my excuses to stay in and be antisocial.  If you recall in my Monday’s blog, I went out last week to a film meet up and did the whole meet and greet with people.  Afterwards I will send an email out to those who I have met to give them a reminder of who I was.   But after that initial email I will never write back.
I know many professionals are probably yelling at me right now to follow every couple of months to update on what I am doing and to see if they are working on anything.  This is where I will self sabotage my self.  Sometimes I feel like I don’t have anything worthy to report to them and I don’t want to become a nag.
I even feel like I over analyze every little word that I have said to that person.  I will replay conversations in my head and worry about what I have said to them. At times I would write up 3-4 drafts of a reply to someone and still feel like I messed up in the correspondence some how.
My problem is the lack of confidence and being overly shy.  I have gotten a lot better, but I still suffer from these little self sabotages that I feel takes me back to square one.  This usually happens to me when meeting with someone for the first time. Once I have known the person for a while or even have a sit down with them that confidence comes back.
I can not rely on other people to take that first step to getting to know me and my work, I need to step up and continue threw trial an error to reach out to clients.

Here is to hoping that one day I can land myself into a comfy sound studio working on films and animation.

Got any anxieties or you are a self sabotager?  What do you do to get over that hump?  Leave comments below and I will see you Monday for another wrap-up to my week.

See you on the other side.

Let The Parties Commence!

Holy cow, what the fuck Seattle?  If you haven’t stepped outside this week you have been lucky.  All across the northern half of the U.S has been in a cold snap, Seattle is part of this.  It was so cold all week long that I thought my tits were going to fall off.
The cold does weird things to people as well.  When I tried to walk into Nordstrom to buy my mom her gift, a man was hitting on me.  He complemented me on my hair, I said thanks, and then he proceeded to take up a conversation with me.  If you are going to complement me then ok, but please move on.  I will only strike up a conversation with you at a more sociable place, not in front of a store in freezing temperature.
Well at least my Christmas shopping is done and I will not have to do any last minute buying.  I can now focus on all the entire social event that I have somehow wound up in.  Usually I will only have one socially event per month, two if I am lucky.  I guess it is the season to be social I suppose.

The first social event that I partake in was the film happy hour.  Usually it happens at the end of the month, but with Novembers being canceled (thanksgiving) and with Christmas and new years at the end of the month it is better to do it at the beginning of the month.  I meet some cool people there, exchanged some cards, light banter.
The best connection I meet was meeting the editor on the bono film that I did.  It was nice to get some more insight on what happened before the film was in my hands and to learn that my suspicion about the director.

            SHE IS A GIANT PUSHOVER!

She pushed back the final version of the film due to the director of photography wanting to add more shoots to the film.  Wow.  The icing on the cake is that he felt the same way about the film and the director as I do.  I do hope that we will work together in the near future with a proper director.

The rest of my social engagements were awesome as well.  Friday I meet up with my cosplay friend and now I have some ideas for cosplay.  So exited for the con-season to start back up in Seattle.  Saturday my man and I went to Slims Last Chance Chili, if you have never been there GO!  At Slim’s we meet up with some of his coworkers, we had some amazing chili and hung out.
Over all a good week aside for creeper man hitting on me.

This week no party Wednesday but I do plan on having one the following week.  Still coming up with ideas, if you have a suggestion let me know.  Friday I will rant or do something.

See you on the other side

Being Fat and Spending Money

All right so I didn’t post on Friday like I usually do.  I was at my parent’s house having a Thanksgiving meal and partaking in the horror call black Friday.  Let’s start at the beginning.

Monday nothing happened.  Tuesday I went over to my parent’s house and guessed who picked me up from the ferry… my father.  I was not expecting him home for thanksgiving, had to dive into my own survival guide to brace me for the week. My sister and her family came over that night.  Needless to say my liver hates me after last week.
It’s not that I hate kids, its just I don’t care to be around them or have to be supervising them.  I hate having to watch what I say (I have a very bad case of sailor mouth) and having to hide a cookie that I want to eat later that day. My niece and nephews behave all right but they are still kids and they just get under my skin all the same.
Lucky for me on Thanksgiving Day, my sister and her herd went to her husband’s parent’s house for the day and I got to sit around and drink champagne.   Of course I did help chop up veggies but with the kitchen being so small only a few people can fit in.  After a relaxing day, we were bombarded back with kids and adults who were planning on going out Friday morning for black Friday.
I will never understand the appeal of waking up at 12am to go shopping at (insert big name store) to only get trampled a few hours later by other crazed shoppers.  I will say that I did go out on Friday but not at some ungodly hour.  We left at 10am just when the asshole shoppers have left.  The only thing I bought was a secret Santa gift for my boyfriend’s x-mass party.  That purchase was on a whim when I saw the price.  The only reason I went out was to buy pj’s that were 5 bucks for a set, but sadly they were sold out.  Who knew pj’s would be popular.
For Saturday, everyone went to Seattle.  I even managed to drag my boyfriend out to feel my pain of socializing with my family!  It sucks moving around Seattle with a large group, especially when going out to eat, you can’t see what you want to see or do what you want to do.  But since I live in the city it isn’t as bad since I can come back and take my time at my own pace.

The highlight of the week was returning home to find out that my boyfriend’s cat (the one I bought him this past May) consumed little over half a piece of hoodie string.  I don’t know how or why but my guess is that she thought I was tasty and decided it would be a good idea to eat it.  To put your minds to rest, she did not choke.  She threw it up today after almost two days after eating the think.  I had to help pull it out of her mouth.  I am still in awe of how she managed to swallow the thing.

This week I will be posting a gift guide for men and women on Wednesday and Friday.  This is to make up for not posting last Friday.

Party Wednesday: Muppet Thanksgiving

Who doesn’t love the Muppets?  I grew up with them and have continued to love them into adulthood.  So why not give thanks with those who have helped us grow into the adults that we are today.
Décor

For the décor, I’m going for Muppet show meets the outdoors.  While the Show is set in a theater, it’s a little hard to transform your entire dinning room into a theater stage.  Instead we are going to have the Muppet cast be the decorations.
Start off with a pile of fake leafs, in fall colors of course.

Print out your favorite Muppet characters (be sure to Photoshop a pilgrim hat on them) and glue them on a stick and with the help of a foam ball place it in the middle of your leaves.

It’s like they are there to celebrate with you.  You can place these leaf piles around your home.  Your main focus is going to be the dinning table.
For your table drape it in burlap table cloth and have the edge of the table cloth hit the floor.

Next have a table runner go down the middle.  Now this isn’t going to be your ordinary table runner, this is going to be the fur of a Muppet table runner!  You can buy faux fur at your local fabric store, just be sure that it is fuzzy and bright.  Think like Animal or Fozzie.

If you want to go the extra mile you can add the character’s head at the end of the runner.

In the center you would normally have your turkey, but I want to put something there until the food arrives on the table.  If you own large Muppet stuffed animals or actual Muppet puppets, throw those bad boys in the middle with some hats.  If you don’t then you can make (or buy) your own turkey Muppet.

I also suggest making your own Camilla the chicken and place her around the table.  Follow the link below the picture to learn how.

Use felt placemats, match the colors up to your guests favorite Muppet.

Use your fine china and flatware, but be sure to use cloth napkins.  On these napkins you will add your guests favorite Muppet on the napkin in the form as a pin.  There are many tutorials on how to make felts pins online, just find a picture of the Muppet and start gluing.

The final decoration the chandelier.  This isn’t a necessity but it really pulls the room together with the lighting.

Food
            Scooter’s Cheesy Head

Big Bird

Kermit and Miss Piggy

Janice’s Sweet Pie

Drink

Very Manly Muppet

The Animal

The Gonzo

As always these are just suggestions, I know we will all have way more food than what I suggested.  This should help bet the ball rolling, or your bellies, for your own Muppet themed thanksgiving.  Like always I would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions on what I should do for the next Party Wednesday; or have pics you would like to share just send them my way.  See you Friday for some ranting or whatever.

See you on the other side
